Semarang, Indonesia (overnight) » |

|
Located on the north coast of the island of Java, Indonesia, Semarang is the capital of its province, playing a prominent role as both busy commercial center and important cultural destination. The lowlands are characterized by offices, business centers and industrial estates, while up in the hills are houses with lovely gardens and superb views.
The city’s current vibrancy could perhaps have been predicted, as Semarang has been a bustling trading center since the Dutch colonial era, when the Dutch East Indies Company established tobacco plantations and built infrastructure such as roads and railroads. The Dutch influence can still be seen in the older part of the city near the harbor. Other cultures, primarily that of the Chinese, also have left their imprint on Semarang and continue to be a significant part of what it is to live in and visit Java.

One of Asia’s most electrifying urban centers, Jakarta is a sprawling, heavily populated city of almost 10 million people. Famous for its shopping, people come to Jakarta from all over the world to snap up bargains, both in traditional open-air marketplaces and ritzy super malls. The region is particularly known for its batik outlets and factories. Despite being the capital of the world’s largest Islamic country, Jakarta has one of the hippest nightlife scenes in Southeast Asia, with over 200 bars, discos, pubs and upscale lounges spread across the city. |

Colonization by the Portuguese, Dutch and British, along with the presence of a lively Chinatown, give this capital city a spellbinding mix of architecture and traditions. Modern prosperity has grabbed hold of Malacca and greater Malaysia, with commercial development and redevelopment producing a wealth of shopping malls and numerous reclamation projects. But at the heart of Malacca is its history, giving it a multicultural heritage and architectural legacy that has earned Malacca a designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. |

Should I get the VISA now or on arrival at the airport on Bali.
A visa is required to enter Bali. The visa on arrival at the airport in Bali is only $25 and is the easiest way. You may if you wish get a visa in advance but the cost and trouble to do so is more and thus it is recommended that all passengers simply get the visa on arrival at the Bali airport for $25 at that time. Please also make sure that your passport expiration date is not before June 21st 2015. If it will expire before that date then you must get it renewed from any US passport renewal office (available at most large post offices in major US cities or via mail via the US state dept passport renewal. Please contact your local post office for details if your passport will expire prior to June 21, 2015.) Please also make sure you have 2 blank pages in your passport as the visa authorities at the airport in Bali will need to put a visa stamp on two blank pages at that time.
